About Myco Mushroom Grow Kits

We started this site because we got tired of reading mushroom kit reviews that were obviously written by people who'd never actually grown a mushroom.

Who We Are

We're a small team based in the UK who genuinely enjoy growing mushrooms at home. What started as a lockdown hobby in a spare bedroom turned into something of an obsession. We've now tested over 47 grow kits from dozens of suppliers, and we document everything. yields in grams, days to first pins, number of flushes, temperature and humidity readings, the lot.

Why We Started

When we first tried to find a decent mushroom grow kit, the reviews we found online were useless. Half of them were clearly affiliate sites that had never touched the product. The other half gave vague "it was great!" verdicts with no actual data. We wanted specific numbers. how many grams did you actually harvest? How many days until first pins? Did you get a second flush?

So we decided to do it properly ourselves. We buy every kit with our own money (no freebies, no sponsored reviews), grow them all under the same conditions, and report exactly what happened. Sometimes a £15 kit outperforms a £35 one. That's the kind of thing you only find out by actually doing the growing.

Our Testing Approach

Every kit goes through the same process: unboxing, setup following the included instructions exactly, then growing in our spare room at controlled temperature and humidity. We weigh every flush on a kitchen scale, note the day pins first appear, count the number of flushes until the substrate is spent, and score across six categories.
